Solstice Soundscapes: Sound and Somatic Healing Amidst Art and Nature

Updated: Feb 12

In today's fast-paced world, finding moments of peace and connection with ourselves and nature can feel like a luxury. Yet, it's these moments that often hold the key to our well-being and sense of harmony. Solstice Soundscapes, an offering from the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum, seeks to provide just that—a sanctuary where movement, music, and the soothing elements of nature converge to offer a truly restorative experience.

Led by somatic therapist Crystal Peña and music therapist Andrea Cortez, Solstice Soundscapes invites participants on a journey of deep listening—to their bodies, to the elements of nature, and to the collective spirit of the community.

Crystal guides participants through a gentle movement practice designed to open the body to deeper levels of awareness and connection. This practice serves as a foundation, preparing participants for the immersive experience that follows.

Andrea's harp and Native flute create a serene soundscape, enveloping participants in a cocoon of tranquil melodies. As attendees sit or lie down, they are invited to surrender to the sounds, allowing them to wash away tension and stress, and to reconnect with their inner selves.

But Solstice Soundscapes is more than just a musical performance; it's a holistic experience that incorporates indigenous materials like copal, adding layers of depth and intention to the atmosphere. These elements serve as reminders of our interconnectedness with the earth and its inhabitants, fostering a sense of reverence and contemplation.

The session concludes with an opportunity for integration and reflection, allowing participants to gently return to the present moment with a newfound sense of harmony and balance. This shared space encourages community building and fosters a collective dialogue on our relationship with the land, nature spirits, and objects.

At the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum, inclusivity and accessibility are core values. That's why our Health + Wellness offerings, including Solstice Soundscapes, are designed to be enriching experiences without creating financial barriers. We've set ticket prices at a level that covers basic costs while remaining affordable for all.

Additionally, we welcome any donations to support the continuation of our Health + Wellness initiatives. Your contributions play a vital role in sustaining these programs and expanding our reach, ensuring that everyone can find moments of solace and connection through sound and somatic healing amidst art and nature.

Join us for Solstice Soundscapes—a journey of restorative connection, where movement, music, and nature converge to nourish the body, mind, and soul.
