Title commonly given to representations of the Virgin Mary mourning over the body of Christ after the Crucifixion. Unusual addition of a third figure, Mary Magdalene - need to view from all sides to get full impact of emotion. Originally in terra cotta painted to simulate bronze. Cast in bronze in 1947. Also in collections of Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish, Lake Charles, Louisiana; Lakeview Arts & Science Center, Peoria, Illinois.
